My name is Jaco (pronounced ya•ku). I’m a South African living in Malaysia, in particular the state of Sabah, on the island of Borneo.
Somebody once labeled me – and meant it as an insult – a blogger, a traveler and an eco-warrior. But that’s actually a very accurate description.
I’m plenty direct and a little sarcastic, sometimes also the other way around. Honest when nobody’s looking, giving till taken advantage of. I value quality over quantity, experiences over possessions. I believe in the good in others, in science over faith and that everyone is beautiful in their own way.
So what’s with the title of this blog?
Well, until I step through an inter-dimensional portal and discover otherwise, I believe there’s only 1 earth. And on this 1 earth, at some point around my last theme refresh, there were 7.1 billion people.
I believe there’s an adventure in every single one of those 7.1 billion people and I would love to experience them all.
Clearly, I’m way behind.
What’s this blog about?
It started out as a personal blog, back in the day when I had nothing much going on except my own emotional turmoil. Some of my best stories, fiction and otherwise, are from that period.
As my blog grew I realised useful posts are more… useful. So I started writing about experiences that might be helpful to others: travel destinations, IT problems, Ubuntu (the operating system), WordPress and the like.
In the meantime search engines upped their game, and where my blog previously was a little unknown corner of the Internet that nobody knew about, it now shows up quite clearly for the right search terms. Because of being less anonymous, my shift in focus, and also writing for several other blogs, my people adventures have fallen way behind.
