Now several days after the event, the details are rather fuzzy. But this is what I believed happened.
The night after the one described in the last post, King and I returned to what King has dubbed “The Pit of Destruction”. Mung Li requested that I join her at 8.30pm that night, but I played it cool and rocked up at only 9.30pm. Just as well, as she also was playing it cool and only rocked up at 9pm.
We arrived and stood by the bar. Having now been at this club more often than recommended, we know that to sit at the damn tables, they require you to spend 200 Yuan on the poison of your choice. In lieu of this, f*&k off and go stand by the bar. That’s what we were doing.
In the early stages of the night, Mung Li and her entire family passed us several times, standing where we were, the main path to the loo. All of them were sober, and all of them ignored us. This pissed me off as I realised these poeple were only fun when they’re pissed. Not a fun way to be fun all the time.
I paid her no further attention until at one point she walked pass and pretended to notice us for the first time. It’s pretty hard to miss King and I. The only black guy and white guy to be seen anywhere. She chit-chatted for a while, but was bored and bored me, so she left again after a while. Not, however, before I offered to buy her a beer, and she declined. Obviously, I was baffeled.
The next time I saw her were several hours later, when pickeled, she returned and asked I buy her friend a beer. “No”, I said pissed of at her for only knowing me when she wanted me to buy beer, not for who, but her damn friend, “I offered to buy YOU a beer, but you didn’t want”.
“Ok”, she said “buy the beer for me”. “Do you think I’m stupid” I wanted to say, but my limited Chinese vocab allowed me to only say “you will give it to your friend”. “No” she said “I will drink it”. So I bought it, knowing full well she would drink half, give half to her friend, and piss off. And that’s the way it went.
King and I enjoyed our night dancing. He didn’t drink anything, I had one beer. Mung Li had dissapeared into one of the dark corners of the club, and that’s where I liked her best.
Adventure: 6,199,997,730-29
Subjects: Dr. Zhong & Ms. Li
I ogled the many beautiful people trying to dance to the rhythm of the music. Later on a guy approached me and asked my name. I told him and got his name in return, he was a doctor. We danced a bit and he asked me some more questions before he drifted off.
Moments later he returned with, as far as I could tell, his colleague. “Ms. Li” he said as he introduced her, a beautiful lady and I thought to myself “HELLO Ms Li!”. “She’s a nurse” he added. “HELLO NURSE!” I thought. She danced in front of me for a bit. An oh how she danced. This girl had rhytm and unlike many others, danced with her whole body.
I didn’t pay her too much attention though, as I didn’t want to appear to be the Club Slut, drifting from one girl to the next, so after a while, she drifted back to her friend. I kept peeking at her though.
Later on we (King and I) ventured onto the dance floor. Mung Li’s auntie approached me from behind and put her hands on my shoulders. She wiggled and danced in perfect anti-rhythm to the music. I found this annoying and made my shoulders taught so as to force her into the rhythm. She must have perceived this as trying to shake her off, as she let go and didn’t look too happy when I looked at her.
Not too long after this, Mung Li appeared. But I left the dancefloor and pretended to go to the loo. I returned to my place in front of the bar. She SMS’ed me to ask if I didn’t want to come back to the floor. I made eye contact and shook my head. “Why” she mimed and looked at me. I just shook my head again, so she gave it a rest and I have not heard anything from her since.
Some time later I was on the dancefloor again and Ms. Li joined up with me. The song was enducing some wild dancing and she gave me a thumbs-up saying she liked the way I dance. I gave her two back, because I really liked the way she danced. She moved in in front of me and we danced together for a bit. I was a bit distant on purpose, although both my brains wanted to dance as close to her as possible, but I was aware I was in the field of vision of Mung Li and could feel her looking at me. I didn’t want to cause any unpleasantness.
Ms. Li read this as being un-interested in her and soon left the dancefloor. She had left her jacket right next to the floor, so whilst she was putting on her jacket, ready to depart, I asked her where she works. “Wuyan” she said, not giving me much to work with. I didn’t ask her number for the same reasons as above. So the beautiful Ms. Li walked out the door and my life.
Only destiny can see it fit for us to meet again.
The King and I have been winding down our holidays and yes, we’ve returned to the Pit of Destruction a few times. Everytime the crowd is less pumped the music gets more boring, so last night we vowed to give it a rest for a long long time.
Prior to our final visit to the club last night, we had dinner with two teachers from No.12 Middle Scool. King treated us plus The Gateman to dinner at Family Pizza. Lara wasn’t there and it was my first time there for a week – which as frequently as I was there before, felt like forever.
It was good to see the other waitresses though and I had a chat with some of them. I saw T, but it was awkard, so we exchanged all of 2 sentences.
Anyway, King and I are both in this freezing office at the moment. Let me see if I can convince him to join me for a coffee…
