Another hard days night (It has nothing to do with the Beatles)

Where did I read recently about hypnoses and what not. I think it was in some or other Slashdot article. That article, or one of the gazillion links I followed from the original, explored the theory of us all coming and going out of certain stages of hypnoses all the time.

The one particular part I was interested in, was why we always remember when our teachers or parents screamed at us and called us no good, or losers, or something bad like that. Things we replay in our minds, over and over again. The writer suggested it was because traumatic, or emotional experiences, place us in a state of hypnoses in that it makes our minds susceptible to whatever input is to follow. Hence the vivid retention.

I have my own anecdotal evidence to that theory in that I am currently exhibiting incredible language retention. My theory is that perhaps my infatuation with The Waitress, a pleasant emotional experience, has placed me in state of hypnoses (hell yeah!) and has opened my mind. Thus, the Mandarin that I am currently learning from the fabulous Cpod people is sticking like the mucus in my congested sinuses.

It could, of course, also be due to the fact that I have ‘discovered’ the premium features on their site, which includes transcripts of the spoken lessons, written in Chinese (to get to grips with the characters), plus the revision exercises. These exercises incorporate simple games to help you remember and for me, it works like a bomb.

Tonight I had another date with Lara (which I can use with relative anonymity as she has recently adopted for herself this English name – I like her Chinese name though). Anyway, our conversation was even smoother than last night.

On the bus home I sat dreaming of very soon being able to talk to her about any topic. I was inspired to learn more (More!!), so here I am, 01:08 in the office catching up on the exercises for the lessons I have fallen behind on.

But now, like last night, I can’t keep my eyes open any longer and have to resign myself to the comfort of my bed.

This morning I didn’t even hear my alarm-bell and woke up WAY too late.

Ps. I have been asked by T & W to be Santa Clause for The Restaurant’s Christmas Eve dinner. Dressing up, Ho-ho-ho’ing it from 6 to midnight, handing out candies to the families. Sounds like fun, so couldn’t say no. Ho ho ho!
